The PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a full time (40 hours per week), day shift, ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN . RESPONSIBILITIES: The ANATOMNIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN will:

  • Process specimens including: tissue grossing, frozen section technique, specimen data entry, specimen tracking and assisting physicians

  • Label and verify microscopic slides

  • Transport specimens within the hospital including: OR, clinics, and shuttle area

  • Monitor specimen processing

  • Perform quality control of specimens

  • Help resolve laboratory issues and answers procedural questions

  • Assist in the review and update of laboratory procedure manuals, supply inventory

  • Perform instrument maintenance, analyzes and determines causes of instrument malfunctions

  • Maintain quality control of instruments and temperature logs

  • Clean lab space, files, disposes of tissue specimens

  • Fill clinic orders for fixatives

  • Prepare solutions as needed

  • Assist with gross digital photography

  • Maintain the frozen section area, including the cleaning of the cryostat and changing of staining solutions REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified at the technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists OR

  • Equivalent education/experience DESIRED:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in chemistry, biology and other biological sciences

  • 3-5 years combined experience in gross anatomic Pathology /Histology

  • Experience with both manual and automated technology in Pathology /Histology labs

  • 2-5 years of anatomic laboratory experience

  • Excellent technical skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making in problem identification and resolution

  • High proficiency with computer and anatomic lab equipment and systems

  • Experience with tissue grossing, frozen section technique, specimen data entry and specimen tracking CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The candidate must demonstrate strong communication, problem solving abilities, knowledgeable about and adheres to lab safety procedures, strong commitment to providing excellent patient care, contributes to a pleasant work environment, foster teamwork, attention to detail, has the ability to multitask and work in stressful environments, knowledgeable about use of computer systems for data entry and information look up, experience with using Excel and Word, has the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, has experience working with a variety of chemicals including formaldehyde, alcohols and solvents, such as xylene.
