POSITION PURPOSE: The Director for Center Technology is responsible for oversight and management of systems, staff, and end-user technical support for Cultivate Learning, a Center with the College of Education. The person in this position will play a strategic role in helping Cultivate Learning’s leadership take advantage of existing and new technologies in support of their mission, aligned with UW policies and best practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and provide daily technical support to staff in a diverse computing environment that includes, but is not limited to, platforms running Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux.

  • Oversee and manage technology infrastructure. Develop and implement technology solutions so that staff have access to technology tools and data in a way that best supports their production, research, and administrative and community service.

  • Oversee and manage the Center’s data security and policy compliance.

  • Oversee and ensure the Center’s data is backed up and processes for restoring data are documented.

  • Oversee the development of the Center’s SharePoint environment to include site and account management, security and permissions, troubleshooting and support.

  • Develop and implement customer service protocols and online technology tools and ensure the adequate provision of technology resources and support.

  • Participate in Cultivate Learning’s Director Group serving as a strategic thought partner at the center and liaison for technology support for various programmatic efforts.

  • Maintain network security; ensure that data is secured securely and reliably

  • Install and configure server software

  • Develop and implement server policies and procedures

  • Perform system backups and disaster recovery operations

  • Perform disaster recovery planning. Develop and implement procedures to ensure data can be retrieved quickly in case of a system failure or security breach.

  • Maintain best practices regarding information security, integrity, and access

  • Collaborate with the Digital Solutions Director and Coaching Companion team on data governance and structures

  • Manage computer support analyst providing support to Cultivate Learning.

  • Coordinate with UW and College of Education IT as needed to adhere with UW policy and practices.

  • Manage institutional inventory following UW and state regulations.

  • Monitor and respond to IT problems or emergency situations that may occur during scheduled or non-scheduled work hours. Respond rapidly to client issues in live production environments.

  • Write and maintain end-user documentation and tutorials. Contribute to ticketing system knowledge base.

  • Stay current on the latest trends, issues, and advances in information technology. Learn new technologies as required.

  • Research, identify and recommend purchase of IT hardware and software to facilitate Cultivate Learning administrative operations and product development.

  • Review new products with software and hardware representatives.

  • Work with the Cultivate Learning’s leadership team and the College’s fiscal team ensuring accuracy of billing across budgets.

  • Other duties as assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Computer-related field of study AND at least three years of experience supporting end-user systems, including MS Windows, MacOS, and MS Office software, ideally in a leadership role. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Service oriented technology professional with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience supporting and developing SharePoint solutions.

  • Demonstrated management experience leading team members/teams to install, configure, and troubleshoot various hardware, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, printers, classroom AV, and video capture systems.

  • Experience managing an IT support team to include on-boarding and training new team members, mentoring and providing continued professional development for an IT team, and implementing continuous quality improvement practices both at an organizational level and IT Team level.

  • Experience working with a help desk ticketing and asset management system.

  • Experience supporting web and cloud-based tools like Google Apps, Office 365, and Zoom.

  • Proven capacity to communicate and provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced and varied environment.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and writing skills. Demonstrated ability to work accurately with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support center events and convenings, and travel in WA State as needed. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with UW technology infrastructure and administrative systems.

  • Experience writing technical documentation for end users.

  • Experience deploying technology using disk imaging software and remote management systems.
