The UW Pediatrics Institute on Human Development and Disability (IHDD) has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time , temporary (70% FTE) Metabolic Dietitian (Dietitian 2) . This position is in the Phenylketonuria (PKU) and Biochemical Genetics Program. The clinic is housed in the IHDD, a free-standing outpatient center that is part of UWMC-Montlake. The dietitian will work as part of the interdisciplinary team, including a geneticist, advanced practice practitioner, and genetic counselor, in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of phenylketonuria and other metabolic disorders. This is an outpatient job, with no inpatient responsibilities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage medical nutrition therapy of individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU) and other genetic metabolic disorders in an ambulatory setting • Evaluate individual nutrition status and treatment requirements • As part of an interdisciplinary team, develop metabolic care plans and medical food prescriptions that incorporate individualized economic, social, cultural, and developmental needs of patients and caregivers • Coordinate, assess, and report pertinent laboratory values and other testing results • Aid patients and families in acquiring treatment components (e.g., medical food, resources, and supplies), including coordinating referrals, letters of medical necessity, and insurance prior authorization • Participate in departmental meetings and case conferences • Develop and implement family-oriented, community-based educational programs related to medical nutrition therapy for metabolic disorders • Provide consultation and education to clinic staff and other health care providers, including, but not limited to nutrition students, dietetic interns, medical students, residents, and fellows • Participate in nutrition-oriented clinical studies of individuals with special health needs. Duties include development and implementation of the nutritional aspects of research studies, data collection and evaluation, and establishment of systems for recording and maintaining research data. • Participate in professional education opportunities regarding evidence-based practice for treatment of metabolic disorders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree with major in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition or Food Service Administration • Completion of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved dietetic education program • Registered Dietitian status • 24 months’ recent full-time experience as an R.D.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health • Experience in clinical work with children and families • Training and experience in working with individuals with special health care needs • Experience evaluating and providing nutritional services for children with special health care needs • Experience in an interdisciplinary program • Experience and/or training in nutrition management of metabolic disorders
