Housing & Food Services (HFS) provides on-campus housing to over 10,000 student residents and operates over 40 dining and café locations that serve the entire campus community. POSITION PURPOSE The position supervises staff, operations and residential services at one of two regional desks which serve the students, staff and guests in either the north or west campus residential communities. Additionally, this position helps in the development of desk policies and procedures and aids in budget development and monitoring.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as a point of inquiry for customers, residents, staff and guests for department procedures, policies, services, events and activities. • Supervise staff; interview and recommend selection of applicants; conduct training, assign and schedule work; conduct performance evaluations for contract-classified staff and recommend corrective action. • Assist in the development and monitoring of the regional desk budget. • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures necessary for effective desk operations. • Coordinate training program for classified and student staff, including planning, developing resources, documenting and facilitating individual and group training sessions. • Coordinate desk functions with Housing & Food Services’ units as well as UW departments that utilize HFS space. • Manage key inventory and building access to ensure building security and resident safety; manage door schedules. • Maintain appropriate records, including key records, occupancy changes, and financial transactions. • Participate in unit and Department events and on unit, Department and campus committees and teams as assigned, including process improvement initiatives. • Provide guidance and train direct reports on unit and site-specific emergency and/or pandemic response protocols and ensure workplace safety behavior expectations are met. Communicate reported or observed safety concerns to a unit or Department leader or to EH&S. Assist in emergency management response. • Provide supervisory or front line coverage for other residence hall desks as needed.

POSITION DIMENSIONS/COMPLEXITIES The position requires extensive involvement with students and the public by supervising resident check in and checkout, delivery of mail and packages, control of the key and building access systems, including checking keys in and out to students living in residence and staff and visitors using the public facilities. The regional desk includes a point of sale for sales transactions.

The position is responsible for supervising the staff that provides direct service to students, staff and guests. This includes orientation and training that allows staff to operate within a complex system of policies, procedures and housing agreements. The complexity is based on having three distinct types of housing, a diverse customer base and three distinct housing agreements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 7-12 FTEs, comprised of up to 2 contract classified staff and approximately 20-30 student assistants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable experience in property management or residential/community management OR equivalent education/experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree AND four years of responsible supervisory, administrative and customer service experience in a related field. • One year of experience leading or supervising staff. • Two years of experience working in a fast-paced, complex, customer service environment. • One year of experience working in an environment covered by Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, equity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
