At the University of Washington School of Social Work (SSW), we commit ourselves to promoting social and economic justice for poor and oppressed populations and enhancing the quality of life for all. We strive to maximize human welfare through education, research, and public service. We embrace our position of leadership in the field of social work and join in partnership with others in society committed to solving human problems in the twenty-first century.

The School of Social Work has a research study, funded by a new National Institute on Aging Roybal Center, called the Massachusetts General Hospital Roybal Center For Behavioral Dyadic Research in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (CONFIDE-ADRD). This project is directed by Clara Berridge, PhD, MSW, associate professor at the University of Washington School of Social Work. Additional team members include the project coordinator (this position), statistician, and intervention web-app manager. All team members are faculty and staff at the University of Washington.

The primary goal of the study is to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of a self-administered behavioral intervention designed to empower families to make informed decisions about using digital health technologies to support dementia care at home. The goal of this research is to meaningfully engage people living with MCI (mild cognitive impairment) and mild stage dementia and their care partners in shared decision making about technology as they contemplate if and how to adopt various technology tools that are designed to support their safety, independence, health, and well-being.

The goal is to conduct the study entirely online, but residence in the Boston area would allow for in-person enrollment and survey completion with participants who are not comfortable with fully remote participation, should that be necessary to achieve recruitment goals.
