School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for Research Coordinator.

The Department of Oral Health Sciences (OHS) brings together faculty from different ends of the dental and oral health research spectrum into a single department that has expertise ranging from the modern experimental life sciences through the public health and behavioral sciences. OHS has the goal of improving the oral and general health and well-being of our diverse global population through research, teaching and service. OHS has a broadly defined mission that accommodates diverse faculty interests and expertise. At present, OHS enjoys faculty expertise in areas including anatomy, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral science (basic and applied), public health, dental hygiene, education, law, medicine, and clinical dentistry including faculty members with specialty training in periodontics, orthodontics, and oral medicine. OHS also sponsors the School of Dentistry’s only PhD program as well as the combined DDS-PhD program and the Masters of Science program for Dental Hygiene. Our graduate programs provide advanced interdisciplinary training for graduate students to enable them to become academic and research leaders in the dental and craniofacial sciences, and to contribute to improved understanding of human oral and systemic health and disease. The Research Coordinator must be able to work independently and with little oversight on multiple aspects of a large research project. The research coordinator will be responsible for overall project planning and coordination, management of budgets and timelines, assurance of project compliance with regulations, help with IRB reporting, manage postings to the project website, and setting the agenda for investigator meetings. This individual will assist the investigative team in setting up online surveys, work with project statistician in managing data from parent and staff surveys, helping to train staff, and coordinate activities in the study sites.

Part of the job will involve working on site (e.g., Alaska Native communities, rural communities in Washington state), which requires the ability to be away from home for many weeks at a time, the ability to carry heavy equipment (e.g., 50 pounds), driving a vehicle, and living in rough conditions that exist in study communities (e.g., sleeping on floor, no running water).

RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative (35%)

• Maintain study binder, study forms, and administrative files • Provide administrative support for field staff (photocopies, schedule meetings/rooms, order and ship supplies, etc.) • Conduct administrative tasks related to research (coordinate school-wide activities, assemble reports, etc.) • Coordinate Alaska activities (schedule meetings, coordinate trips to communities, etc.) • Help assemble and coordinate Community Planning Groups and Advisory Board meetings • Help to oversee hours submitted by local study staff • Manage IRB certification and other paperwork for lab members and staff • Help to manage paperwork submitted by prospective lab volunteers • Help delegate responsibilities to lab volunteers • Help to oversee hours submitted by lab volunteers • Help managing and updating lab website

Data Abstraction and Management (10%)

• Responsible for creating projects, data entry forms, and managing complex data synthesis for managing and processing hard copy and electronic data collection materials • Responsible for managing and processing hard copy and electronic data collection materials • Oversees pretesting of database development, identifies issues, develops solutions • Conduct and/or oversee entry of survey data and transcription of qualitative interview data • Generate summaries and reports of study data • Prepare datasets for analyses and be able to conduct basic statistical analyses using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, stata, sas)

Operations Documentation and Action (35%)

• Master high-level proficiency in research protocol, manual of operations, and quality assurance plan • Create templates for use that are consistent with federal agency guidelines (NIH, HRSA, etc) • Manage Internal Review Board documentation, status reports, and modifications • Develop and implement strategies and action plans to ensure protocol adherence • Responsible for implementing and managing quality assurance and quality improvement plan and reports • Oversight of study timeline goal posts for study completion • Monitor and manage ordering of supplies • Oversee mechanics of pilot intervention • Be highly responsive and communicative with the PI and get things done promptly and timely

Participants and Staff (10%)

• Help recruit and consent participants for the research study • Coordinates and oversee data collection at study visits from study participants • Coordinates activities with Community Planning Group and Advisory Board members • Works with Alaska contacts to liaise with local stores and suppliers • Work with PI to recruit, identify and train Community Health Workers (CHWs) • Support CHWs to recruit pilot intervention families in two study communities

Analysis and Reporting (10%)

• Create routine data entry forms and write quality assurance reports • Write and complete interim reports for PI, NIH, and institutional review board • Develop presentations, posters, and manuscripts and conducting literature reviews • Carry out other duties as deemed qualified and as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, social/behavioral sciences, dentistry, or related discipline • 2 to 3 years experience in project evaluation and community-based coordination, project coordination or equivalent experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • The ability to lift 50 pounds and travel to study sites (away from Seattle) for short- and long-term study assignments with spartan accommodations.
